A Note From The Principal
We have been eagerly awaiting Spring weather to arrive in our area. Students are enjoying the outdoors as each day provides a little more warmth. We commend our students for doing a great job following the mask-wearing protocol while at school and traveling to and from school. We are anticipating that next school year will be a normal school day with students attending a full day. We are excited about this and hope that the wellness of our students and staff continue to allow next year to return to normal for everyone.
This month students at SES and across Illinois in grades 3, 4 and 5 will complete the state achievement test called the Illinois Assessment Readiness Test. We anticipate the success our students will demonstrate and look forward to them showing an excellent effort on the upcoming online assessments. Students in grades 3 to 5 will test from April 26th to May 7th. To learn more about the IAR Test please visit the link below:
Congratulations to 5th Grade Students on being chosen for the

We congratulate both Jayden and William on this prestigious award! They are role models for their peers and demonstrate a strong commitment to their work in the classroom. On behalf of their teachers, principals, and all the staff at SES we honor and applaud your hard work! Congratulations!
From Nurse Nekola
A big thank you to everyone for your cooperation with all the Covid Protocols and precautions. It has been a challenging year but you have stepped up to meet it. The Illinois Dept of Public Health (IDPH) has revised the symptom list and omitted new congestion/runny nose and abdominal pain from unknown causes as Covid-like symptoms. Please continue to call in to report when your child is home ill as well as keep siblings home if your child is having any Covid-like symptoms.
Please submit the required Dental exam forms now for Kindergarten and 2nd grade students if you have not already done so. They are due before May 15th. Thank You!

OLSAT Testing: Grade 3
During the week of April 12, all 3rd grade students at Scott Elementary will be taking the Otis-Lennon School Ability Test (OLSAT) in their classrooms. The OLSAT Test is an ability test that is designed to measure abstract thinking and reasoning ability. The test will take approximately 60 minutes to complete. Your child’s third grade teacher will administer the test and we ask parents to do their best to make sure your child is in attendance on their testing day. The testing days are as follows:
Monday, April 12: Detering
Tuesday, April 13: Schuette
Wednesday, April 14: N. Wilhelm
Thursday, April 15: Brown/Beyer (in-person students only). If remote students wish to test, please call the SES office.
Score results will be returned to the school in June of this year and we will share those test results with parents.
Illinois Science Assessment: Grade 5
Students in grades 5, 8 and 11 will take the Illinois Science Assessment (ISA) this spring. The ISA aligns with our new Illinois Learning Standards in science. This assessment helps families understand how well students are performing academically and see whether they are on track to succeed in college. The ISA represents Illinois’ commitment to preparing all students for college and careers, including in the high-demand science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) fields. The assessment also satisfies federal accountability requirements. At Scott Elementary School, all 5th grade students will take the ISA on April 13th, 14th, & 15th.
Leukemia & Lymphoma Society Fundraiser: April 12-16
SES will partner with the LLS and their “Pennies for Patients” campaign all next week. LLS is a global leader in the fight against cancer. The LLS mission is to cure leukemia, lymphoma, Hodgkin's disease and improve the quality of life of patients and their families. LLS funds lifesaving blood cancer research around the world, has invested nearly $1.3 billion in the most pioneering science worldwide since 1949, provides free information and support services, and is the voice for all blood cancer patients seeking access to quality, affordable, coordinated care.
Starting next week, students are welcome to bring in the following each day and place in their grade level’s collection jar in the main foyer when they arrive to school in the morning:
Monday: Pennies Tuesday: Nickels
Wednesday: Dimes Thursday: Quarters Friday: Dollars
The grade level that raises the most funds will receive a popsicle party in their classroom the following week! No obligation is necessary.
Kids Heart Challenge
Our school recently participated in an exciting fundraiser sponsored by the American Heart Association called the Kids Heart Challenge. Students had the option of collecting donations which goes toward the research and assistance of individuals who suffer from heart and lung disease. There are many individual standouts for fundraising, but the effort school wide by the staff, students & families was nothing short of amazing!!
SES came together during this time of need and collected only $400 less than last year's total! This is such a wonderful accomplishment considering we usually dedicate the entire month of February to this fundraiser. This year, we had to reduce the length of the fundraiser to only one week!
We are so proud of our results and to be a part of this amazing SES community. Here are some of the results from this year's KHC fundraiser.
Scott Elementary Total School Collection Amount $16,289.43
Top 4 collectors from SES:
1) Puarenaokelani Mrs. Fensom 1st Grade $601.71
2) Simon Mrs. Bassler 2nd Grade $594.34
3) Camilla Mrs. Zerjal 2nd Grade $457.02
4) Courtney Ms. Horn 4th Grade $450
May 17th - Current Kindergarten Students
On Monday, May 17th the K students attending SES will not be in attendance as we are hosting in-person screenings on this day for our new K students coming to us this fall. The in-person screenings allow the teachers and staff to meet our new students and prepare families for this exciting time in their child’s life.
