A Note From The Principal

Ms. Riechmann

We are very proud to announce that students and staff at Scott Elementary raised over $15,000 for the American Heart Association in the month of February!  Thank you to all students and families that donated to this worthy cause!

With approximately 3 months remaining in the school year, it makes us question where the year has gone.  We still have much to teach and accomplish, and much for your child to learn and experience.

As we approach the spring season, we are gearing up for state testing in Illinois. In April, students at SES and across Illinois in grades 3, 4 and 5 will complete the state achievement test called The Illinois Assessment of Readiness. All students in grades 3-5 will test between April 13-24. The building schedule for testing at SES is posted here:
SES - IAR Testing Schedule 2020
We greatly appreciate the attention to this schedule and ask that appointments be scheduled around these testing dates, if at all possible.

Grade 5 students will be taking the Illinois Science Assessment (ISA) on April 27th to April 29th.

In compliance with federal testing requirements, Illinois will administer a science assessment to students enrolled in a public school district in grades 5, 8 and 11. The assessment will be administered in an online format and is aligned to the Illinois Learning Standards for Science incorporating the Next Generation Science Standards (NGSS), which were adopted in 2014.

Students are working very hard and we know their teachers are preparing them well.  Our current and past students have made a tradition of outstanding performance and high standards.  We expect that tradition to continue and are excited about the progress we have made thus far.

Earth Day - April 22nd - Looking for Parent and Base Volunteers to Help Us Grow! SES is celebrating Earth Day on April 22nd and we will be planting on this day!  We are looking for volunteers to help dig holes and assist with planting on this day.  Please email our lead teacher on this event, Mrs. Guempel, if you are interested in helping on this event. guempelr@msd19.org
Thank you!

Reminders from Nurse Nekola
1.  Proof of Dental Exam due BEFORE May 15 for the Kindergarten and 2nd grade
     students.
2.  Please send extra clothes for your child to keep on hand at school for spills, tears,
bathroom accidents etc. This prevents missed class time and calls home to bring             items in.

Little Miss Homecoming Princess The Mascoutah Improvement Association (MIA) is starting a Little Miss Homecoming Princess contest this year.  The MIA is looking for little girls from the age of 4 to 8 years of age. The contestant must be age 4 by April 1, 2020, and they can’t turn 9 until after homecoming weekend (first weekend in August each year) to run for the Little Miss Homecoming Princess. This is not a beauty contest, but a way to raise money for the MIA. The MIA puts this money back into the Mascoutah Park systems.  Also, there is an opportunity for the contestant to earn money for her participation. The contestant must live in the Mascoutah School District.

Congratulations to our Outstanding Students
Students of the Month for February 2020
